Photo Title: Grace in Motion

Shot by: Soumya Ranjan Bhattacharyya

Description: I captured the purple heron landing in the swampy grassland of the Manglajodi wetlands in Odhisa, with a large bull frog dangling from its mouth. The legs of the frog looked like handle bar moustache. The Manglajodi wetlands in Odhisa is a designated Ramsar site with large biodiversity. During the winter, when the water had evaporated creating small water channels and mucky grassland in between, large congregations of waterbirds gather in the wetland to feed on the fish, frogs and snakes that breed in the shallow water. This in turn attracts raptors, small mammals, etc which prey on the waterbirds and the other critters. I captured this photograph on a cloudy winter day from a small boat.

Although they lay a large number of eggs. Even after hatching many of them are attacked by other animals. Photo Title: Silhouette of a Bird

Shot by: Ajith kumar

Description: Captured at the magic hour, a tiny bird opens its beak, perhaps mid-song or call, while perched on a sharply silhouetted, thorny stem. The warm, out-of-focus highlights from the water or distant light sources provide a breathtaking, textured backdrop, emphasizing the delicate details of the bird’s form and its striking pose.
